The Playstation version features an Art Gallery with illustration gallery, unused art and a secret ending demo unlockble, this version is also vibration function compatible.

The series ditched the sidestep from 99 onward. Goro Daimon Daimons old 96 sidestep dodge. The kick itself is part of his Handou Sandan Geri special, but the flip kick special on its own is unused. Benimaru Benimarus old Super Inazuma Kick special from The King of Fighters 2000.
These were originally used when unlocking some of the game's hidden characters, but since they are available from the start in this version, these go. Since 2002 no longer uses Strikers, this animation goes unused.

Only one of the previous teams failed to attend the new tournament, the American Sports team, now replaced by the "Rival Team" consisting of Iori Yagami, Billy Kane (from the Fatal Fury), and Eiji Kisaragi (from Art of Fighting 2).
